About Care by Volvo

Care by Volvo is Volvo’s own subscription service, allowing customers access to a wide range of Volvo vehicles on 3-month rolling contracts, with the option to sign up to a 36-month fixed period (XC40 Recharge Pure Electric only) for customers who want a more long-term deal.

With an all-inclusive service and maintenance package direct from Volvo, 30 days’ free insurance, and flexible mileage, standard is 6,000 miles/year, Care by Volvo have designed their offering to be both premium and flexible.

How it works

Volvo assess your eligibility and go through the necessary ID and license checks. Then, you have a choice of a range of Volvo vehicles, with tax, maintenance, servicing, and breakdown cover included. They offer 30 days’ free insurance, based on age and vehicle, but after that, customers must arrange for insurance.

The minimum subscription term is 3 months, working on a rolling contract. With 3 months’ notice, customers can also switch cars. Volvo take their monthly subscription charge one month in advance, and any other costs incurred are charged at the end of the term or on the annual service.

Customers also have access to the Volvo helpline if they have any problems and can either collect or arrange for delivery of their vehicle. There are also several customisation options, so you can build your car from scratch, although the delivery lead time is then typically 8 weeks.

Costs and fees

Volvo don’t charge a deposit on their vehicles, nor do they ask for a sign-up fee, but do ask for the monthly subscription payments a month in advance. Prices start from £529 per month before customisation or mileage package arrangement, up to more than £1,000 per month for a top-end hybrid SUV or a new EX90.

As the mileage package is up to the customer at the beginning of the subscription, there is no stated or fixed cost per mile for going over the agreed allocation.

Care by Volvo customers have access to a wide range of Volvo vehicles. This includes:

  • V60
  • XC40
  • XC60
  • V90
  • XC90
  • EX90

Notice periods

If you would like to switch vehicles, you must give 3 months’ notice. Otherwise, Care by Volvo operate on 3-month rolling contracts, with the option to extend or cancel at the end of each period. There is no option to buy the car at the end of the term.

What’s special about Care by Volvo?

Care by Volvo is a subscription service run by the car manufacturer – Volvo. This is unusual in the subscription world, as it obviously means that customers can only choose from Volvo cars. However, for fans of the brand, or for those who want to have access to new models and favourable dealerships services, Care by Volvo makes sense.

Currently, Care by Volvo only offer their subscription services to people over the age of 18. They don’t tie you in to using their policy; if you prefer to stay with your current insurer or to shop around, you can, and this allows you to set your own excess and choose a protected NCB.


Care by Volvo offer car subscriptions on new vehicles with the option to add insurance. Due to the short contract length, customers have the option to test and drive the Volvo of their choice. They offer all the typical features of a car subscription (tyres, maintenance, servicing, breakdown cover, tax) as well as access to a 24-hour on Call service.

For fans of Volvo cars, Care by Volvo will appeal as it offers the opportunity to drive their latest models without the hassle of ownership. The option to build and customise a new car from scratch is also appealing and quite unique in the car subscription market.
