About Access by BMW

Access by BMW is a BMW car subscription service operating in Nashville, TN since 2018. The service offers a range of mid- to high-end BMW vehicles on a 30-day rolling subscription, with flips, upgrades and pauses all possible within that month at short notice. Access to the subscription service is split into priced tiers, with the brackets aimed at the higher end of the car subscription market. The concierge service and insurance package that comes with your subscription, is equal to that of similar high-end, dealership-led car subscription services.

How it works

BMW Select customers must be in Nashville, TN and over the age of 21. As with other subscription firms, BMW will also check your driver record for DUIs or speeding tickets. You must also have a credit card.

  • Complete the sign-up and application process. BMW will then perform the standard checks.
  • Choose from the three tiered packages and pick a vehicle.
  • Allow 30 minutes for the first delivery, as the concierge will want to take you through paperwork. This isn’t necessary for subsequent rentals.
  • You can keep the car as long as you like, although BMW may recall after a few months for standard checks and valeting, and provide another similar vehicle.
  • To flip or pause during a month, contact your concierge. More notice is better, though there is no stated minimum.

Cost and fees

Access by BMW charge a one-off $575 payment up front, along with the first month’s subscription fee. Thereafter, the tiered subscription fees include tax, maintenance, insurance, roadside assistance and detailing.

ICON: $998 per month
LEGEND: $1399 per month
BMW M: $2699 per month

In addition, if you want to pause your subscription for any length of time, you can do so for a flat $200 fee. The insurance covers the following:

  • $1,000 deductible
  • $1,000,000 liability coverage (combined single limit)
  • $300,000 uninsured motorist (combined)
  • $2,000 medical payments to offset any out of pocket or deductible costs

Brands and models

BMW have split their subscriptions into three tiers, with higher tier customers having access to cars within their tier and all tiers below.

CORE: 330i, 340i, X3, M240i Convertible, 440i Gran Coupe
ICON: 530e xDrive iPerformance, 540i, X5 xDrive35i, 440i Coupe, M2 Coupe, 440i Convertible
BMW M: M5 Sedan, X5M, X6M, M4 Convertible, M6 Convertible

Notice periods

While there is no stated notice period for flipping or up/downgrading, Access by BMW do advise that more notice is good to avoid disappointment. To cancel, 7 days before the end of the month is advisable.

What’s special about Access by BMW?

Access by BMW is notably short of restrictions for its customers. The ability to flip freely between cars during a subscription month is eye-catching, as is the lack of mileage limit and the ability to pause and restart at will.

Access by BMW have a small fleet that only contains the latest BMW models, placing themselves at the higher end of the subscription market, and they also offer corporate packages to reflect this. The insurance policy is robust, and the personal concierge service matches the high-end nature of this particular offering. If you don’t know enough to pick your own vehicle, describe it to your concierge and they will pick one for you that matches your needs.

Social media

Access by BMW doesn’t have a dedicated social media page, but you can get the latest information about BMW and their cars from the BMW Facebook site.

Conclusion

Access by BMW is a premium subscription service offering only the latest models. This will mean that it prices a large section of the population out of the market. But for those who can afford it, a flexible subscription with unlimited flips and the ability to pause, will make for an attractive offering. The personal concierge service, the spec of the cars and the insurance package are all in line with the premium pricing and image that BMW want to portray across their business, and the company are intending to roll this out across the US in the coming years.

  1. Unless you’ve got a really good job or some sweet inheritance, you probably won’t get to drive the M series cars, but with the BMW subscription packages, you can drive a whole bunch of them. I guess this is the appeal really – the other stuff like the concierge and the valeting is just an added bonus. - from S Richardson | 2020-05-03
  2. Amazing. Drive all the best BMW models, change them out or stop like you’re trading baseball players, and you get a clean, well-maintained, high-end car. I can’t think of a single drawback really! - from Maya C | 2020-04-06
  3. I liked being able to flip between vehicles but the way they get you is you start off on one of the cheaper subscriptions, then you start to get FOMO and upgrade – or I did anyway. Then it’s way too expensive, so in the end I couldn’t keep going with it. - from WayneJK | 2020-03-10
