DriveBLACKTIE is a luxury subscription service that focuses on a range of high-end vehicles, including electric vehicles. The service is currently only available within St Louis, Missouri to customers within a 25-mile radius. The company bills themselves as “the future of car ownership” and the website and application are all geared towards a more premium experience. As befits a high-end service such as this one, most of the typical subscription features, including flips and mileage, are completely customizable, with low notice periods and the option to sign up to a multi-vehicle subscription.
How it works
Signing up with DriveBLACKTIE involves confirming eligibility, downloading the app and registering as a user. There is an activation fee, and then payment is taken monthly on a rolling contract. You can choose a single vehicle or multi-vehicle subscription, the latter of which entitles you to unlimited vehicle flips at less than twenty-four hours’ notice. Mileage is customizable, and there is no limit to how long you can have the vehicle.
Cost and fees
The one-off non-refundable activation fee is payable at the start of the subscription term. Then, the monthly fee is either variable according to the vehicle you have chosen for single vehicle contracts, or for multi-vehicle contracts, you can choose either $1035, $1380, or $1960 for access to different vehicles, with unlimited flips. Mileage limits are imposed on all vehicles, but these can be customized to suit you.
Brands and models
Some of DriveBLACKTIE’s vehicles include:
- Tesla Model S
- Aston Martin Vantage
- Land Rover Sport
- Porsche Panamera
- Audi R8
- Maserati Levante
- Porsche Boxster
- BMW 750i
To completely cancel your subscription, you must give 31 days’ notice. For vehicle flips, you can arrange your replacement vehicle as soon as the day before (by 2pm).
What’s special about DriveBLACKTIE?
The main point of difference for DriveBLACKTIE is the vehicles themselves, which include high-end luxury vehicles from globally revered brands such as Aston Martin and Porsche. The ability to flip as many times as you like, at less than 24 hours’ notice, adds an element of premium fun to the multi-vehicle subscription, and the access to a wide range of luxury electric vehicles is also a plus point. With eligibility criteria only being age (over 21s only) and a clean license, there is also the chance for younger drivers to experience high-end vehicles.
Can I take my dog in a DriveBLACKTIE vehicle?
Yes, you can take pets in your car. However, they must be kept in a crate.
Can I switch plans?
Yes, you can do this at any time by contacting DriveBLACKTIE on the app. The subscription will be prorated.
Can I add additional drivers?
Yes, they will be added to your account. However, they must also meet the eligibility criteria.
What’s the mileage limit?
There are default limits which are dependent on the vehicle or plan you choose, but you can also customize your mileage to your needs by speaking to one of DriveBLACKTIE’s representatives.
What’s the maximum term?
There isn’t one – drive until you don’t need the vehicle anymore. However, the company may occasionally recall your vehicle for routine maintenance and servicing.
With the car subscription market now growing, there are a lot of companies that have similar offerings and only really vary on price and location. What DriveBLACKTIE does differently is provide access to cars at the very top end of the market, then allow unlimited flips at short notice. There is also a single-vehicle subscription model that works like other companies, but again with more premium vehicles. The price is higher than the majority of its competitors, but this is to be expected bearing in mind the vehicle types and brands that DriveBLACKTIE covers. Currently, this is limited to St Louis, MO, but the company has indicated that they will consider expanding in the future, if there is enough interest.
