About Luxicar

Luxicar is a luxury car subscription service available to customers in the Brisbane area. It currently offers a small range of high-end vehicles, with a focus on 4x4s. The company offers a service whereby it purchases your old vehicle if you are interested in a permanent change, and through its contract-free model, allows access to luxury vehicles without the need for a long-term commitment that may otherwise price a lot of people out of the market.

How it works

As with most car subscription services nowadays, the initial application is done online. You need to submit your ID documents and consent to a driving history check, then when your application has been approved, you’re free to select a vehicle and start driving.

Luxicar claim not to work on a contract basis, which suggests that there may not be a minimum tie-in, but you will need to contact Luxicar to confirm this with the vehicle you are choosing, as their information is available on application only.

Costs and fees

There is no application fee or joining fee to pay with Luxicar, nor is there a deposit. The weekly subscription price starts from $330, for an Isuzu D-Max LS-M Crew Cab 4×4, and goes up from there, with models like the Range Rover Sport being more expensive, starting from $799 per week. For more information on damage fees, insurance excess and other fees, you need to contact Luxicar and go through the initial application process.

What is special about Luxicar?

Luxicar’s main USP is that it specialises in luxury vehicles, where other subscription companies offer vehicles more focused on the midrange. By nor charging an application fee, the company is also trying to make itself as accessible as possible, despite the comparatively high charges for the vehicles they offer. However, the stand-out feature that many other companies do not offer, is an unlimited mileage package. The typical car subscription model involves specifying a set amount of monthly kilometres, then paying a per-kilometre charge for any excess, which can prove costly. But by signing up to an unlimited package with Luxicar, you are avoiding the possibility of that extra cost.

Conclusion

Luxicar have decided to focus their efforts on promoting the flexibility aspect of car subscriptions, offering a quick sign-up process, the possibility to include unlimited kilometres, and doing away with joining fees and deposits. By offering luxury vehicles only, they are not going to appeal to the majority of the public, but the chance to try out a quality vehicle for a short time, for a fraction of the cost of a long-term lease, will no doubt interest more than just the higher earning population. And there are several electric vehicles to choose from, including the Tesla Model 3, which do in part offset their higher subscription price with a lack of fuel to pay for.
